Summerfest, Milwaukee’s 11-day music festival, opens today at noon. With 11 stages and over 800 acts, this year’s Summerfest is sure to please the nearly 900,000 people who will visit the festival. Hosted at Henry Maier Festival Park, the fest sprawls over 75 acres of beautiful lakefront scenery.

There are some great attractions new to Summerfest in 2013. If you’re planning to attend on opening day, look for Summerfest staffers at 5:30pm when there will be a 10-minute giveaway of a quarter million dollars in tickets. Just say “Smile On” when you see a staff member holding a fest flag. Other attractions include paddleboating along the lakefront from 12-8pm each day, a zipline along the waterfront that’s 35 feet above the grounds, summer skydiving shows and a Summerfest parade that invites fans to join in and participate!

“The zipline looks like a fun new activity this year, and I can’t wait to try. I’m excited to go see performances by Gavin DeGraw (6/26) and Guster (7/4).”

“I think this year is one of the best years for music selection. Bands I’m excited about include: Violent Femmes (6/26), Billy Idol (6/27), Imagine Dragons (6/29), Pitbull (6/30), Bare Naked Ladies (7/4), Airbourne Toxic Event (7/5). I think it’s great that so many bands are on free stages.”

“No need to head to Summerfest with a musical guest in mind — my favorite thing is the people watching!”

“Excited to see The Eagles — best band ever!”
